From the MIS Board of Trustees

February 3, 2026

Dear MIS families,

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, thank you for your continued commitment and support of MIS. I am honored to serve as Board President this year and would like to share a few updates as we look ahead to 2026/2027.

Sarah Flaig with her husband, Pete, and son, Ronen, current MIS 7th grader.

If you weren’t able to attend the Winter All Parent Meeting and MIS Familias activity on February 3, you can view the presentation here. The Board, school leadership, teachers, and staff are incredibly proud of how MIS students continue to thrive and reach their fullest potential.

Each year, one of the Board’s most important responsibilities is setting a budget that reflects MIS’s mission and values. We remain focused on sustaining the hallmarks of an MIS education—excellent teaching, small class sizes, global perspective, and strong outcomes for our graduates.

Our alumni embody the lasting value of an MIS education. They tell us that their bilingualism, adaptability, and international mindset continue to serve them well in high school, college, and beyond. MIS graduates have gone on to universities such as Harvard, Stanford, Middlebury, Gonzaga, and UM, among many others—proof that the investment in an MIS education opens doors across the world.

The Board remains committed to keeping MIS accessible and supporting our dedicated staff. More than 30% of students receive need-based tuition assistance—over $525,000 will be awarded in 2026/2027. Since 2021, the median MIS teacher salary has increased over 54% to about $62,000, reflecting a cumulative investment of more than $1 million in increased teacher compensation.

The Board has carefully reviewed operating costs and has determined that a moderate increase to tuition rates in 2026/2027 will allow the school to meet its financial obligations - both short and long term - while staying true to its efforts to improve teacher compensation, ensure accessibility through tuition assistance, and uphold the quality educational experience that MIS is known for.

Of special note to families with incoming 5th, 6th and 7th grade students: the posted tuition rates for 2026/2027 include all experiential education trip fees for the year. The rate for incoming 8th grade students includes airfare for the capstone trip to Costa Rica.

We are deeply grateful for every MIS family and look forward to another year of growth and learning together.

Warm regards,

Sarah Flaig
President, MIS Board of Trustees
