Middle School Math Teacher (6th-8th grades)

The Missoula International School is a nonprofit, independent school in Missoula, Montana, offering a unique educational opportunity for Missoula families. Our mission is to inspire principled global citizens and lifelong learners through a challenging bilingual education from preschool to eighth grade.  MIS is an IB World School, authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) to offer the Primary Years Program (PYP) and the Middle Years Program (MYP).  

Missoula International School seeks a dynamic and experienced Middle School Math Teacher who is passionate about developing math skills and critical thinking abilities in their students. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of mathematics, be trained in the IB Middle Years Program(MYP), and love working with middle school students. Additionally, the ideal candidate will enthusiastically participate in our service learning and experiential educational programs and will potentially serve as a middle school advisor. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach a range of middle school math courses using the Amplify Desmos curriculum, including  Algebra I and some advanced Algebra II Concepts for accelerated learners, 7th grade math, and 6th grade math, within the context of an inquiry-based IB MYP framework. 

  • Collaborate with other faculty members to implement interdisciplinary learning in a multilingual environment 

  • Create an inclusive classroom environment based on a deep understanding of the social and emotional needs of middle school students 

  • Assess and monitor student progress, differentiating instruction to meet diverse learning needs and styles 

  • Participate in the life of the school, including after-school activities, events, and professional development to contribute to the MIS community.

  • Lead a student club, such as the MIS Quiz Bowl Team.

  • Lead service learning trips in the Missoula Community and collaborate with colleagues on experiential educational trips in the Northern Rockies.

Qualifications & Experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a related field.

  • Curriculum & Pedagogy: Demonstrated experience with inquiry-based learning frameworks and modern mathematics curricula (experience with Amplify Desmos preferred).

  • Middle School Expertise: Proven success in teaching middle school students across varying skill levels, including standard grade-level math (6th–7th grade), Algebra I, and accelerated concepts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • IB MYP Experience: Prior training or teaching experience in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program (MYP).

  • Multilingual & Interdisciplinary Background: Experience or interest in collaborating within a multilingual, interdisciplinary school environment.

  • Advanced Degree: Master’s degree in Education, Teaching, or Mathematics.

Substitute Teacher 

MIS is always seeking substitute teachers to join our team. Experience in a school setting and Spanish fluency is preferred.

Teachers and staff at Missoula International School work together to inspire principled global citizens and lifelong learners through a challenging bilingual education for students and work constantly to translate this into daily classroom practice. We are preschool through eighth grade, and immerse students in Spanish as a second language beginning at age three.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree required, previous experience working with children required, Spanish fluency preferred, and background check mandatory.

Art Teacher, Spanish Immersion (Preschool–8th Grade)

Missoula International School is looking for a creative, experienced Art Teacher to teach visual arts fully in Spanish to students from preschool through 8th grade as part of our Spanish immersion program. The ideal candidate is fluent in Spanish, has a strong background in studio art, and is excited to help students grow as artists and Spanish speakers. IB PYP and/or MYP experience is strongly preferred. 

Key Responsibilities

Teaching (0.8 FTE)

  • Teach a sequential visual arts program fully in Spanish within the inquiry-based IB PYP and MYP frameworks

  • Help students build skills in drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, and textiles, and in both creating art and responding to it

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to deepen Units of Inquiry, using art to give students fresh perspectives on the ideas they're exploring in class

  • Introduce artists and art traditions from Spanish-speaking cultures and around the world

  • Assess growth through portfolios, reflections, peer feedback, and exhibitions

  • Build an inclusive, welcoming art studio that responds to the social and emotional needs of students at every age

  • Manage the art studio, including materials, supplies, and a safe and organized workspace

Arts Program and Community Support (0.2 FTE)

  • Lead two after-school art clubs per week

  • Support art for Día de los Muertos, the Wild Walk Parade, and the annual fundraiser

Qualifications

  • Native or near-native fluency in Spanish

  • Bachelor's degree in art, art education, or a related field

  • Experience teaching art across several grade levels

  • IB training or experience preferred; willingness to complete IB training required
