Primary Grades English Literacy Teacher
The Missoula International School (MIS) is a nonprofit, independent school offering a globally minded education for Missoula families. As an IB World School, MIS is authorized to deliver both the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP) of the International Baccalaureate.
Our dynamic curriculum emphasizes Spanish immersion for students ages three to fourteen, preparing them to become engaged, empathetic citizens of the world. Beginning in second grade, MIS students receive daily English literacy instruction to complement their Spanish immersion experience. We are seeking an enthusiastic, collaborative Primary Grades English Literacy Teacher to inspire a love of reading and writing while supporting students’ bilingual development.
Key Responsibilities:
Literacy Instruction: Teach English language arts—including reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary—to students developing bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English.
Units of Inquiry Collaboration: Partner with Spanish-homeroom teachers to coordinate lessons and reinforce literacy and language development through the IB PYP framework.
Assessment & Monitoring: Use both formal and informal assessments to track student growth and adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
Curriculum Development: Design engaging lessons and select literature and materials that cultivate curiosity, reading fluency, and expressive writing skills.
Qualifications
Successful completion of a background investigation
Certification in First Aid and CPR within 30 days of hire (and maintained throughout employment)
Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field required. Master’s Degree preferred.
Fluency in Spanish and knowledge of Latin American or other Spanish-speaking cultures preferred.
Strong writing, communication, and collaboration skills are essential.
Previous experience in nonprofit or school settings is a plus.
Proficiency with Google Workspace and other web-based tools is desired.

Substitute Teacher
MIS is always seeking substitute teachers to join our team. Experience in a school setting and Spanish fluency is preferred.
Teachers and staff at Missoula International School work together to inspire principled global citizens and lifelong learners through a challenging bilingual education for students and work constantly to translate this into daily classroom practice. We are preschool through eighth grade, and immerse students in Spanish as a second language beginning at age three.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree required, previous experience working with children required, Spanish fluency preferred, and background check mandatory.
