sold out

Days: Wednesdays

Starts: January 15, 2025

Last class:May 21, 2025

No classes: March 19, 2025 and April 9, 2025

Times: 3:15 - 5:00

Age: 2nd-5th grade

Teacher: Grandma Kitty

Description:

Animals Around the World is an after-school art class that explores the animal kingdom
through clay modeling. Students use air-dry clay to sculpt over 80 animals found
throughout the world. The class is open to 2 nd -5 th graders and is taught by two MIS
grandmothers, Kitty Ordway and Nancy Lee.

There are no prerequisites and no limits! The basics of modeling clay are intuitive for
young children which makes this medium ideal for beginners. There is also unlimited
creative potential, and that’s why kids keep coming back for more. Experienced artists
build on their technique and welcome new challenges; that skill level inspires others.
While instructions are given as guidelines, students are encouraged to develop their
own artistic style through experimentation and collaboration.

Spring semester, the class will sculpt animals from Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania and
South America. Special project days will include mini-dioramas, shadow boxes, totem
poles and more. Because children have a natural affinity for art and for animals, this
class hits the sweet spot in after-school fun!

Snacks and art supplies are included.
